Beyond Monroe Street
A free art-making opportunity for families in the Madison area in need of access to art education without the barrier of registration fees.
Family Art Makings Studio (FAMS) at Monroe Street Arts Center is a free weekly art-making session for families that provides opportunities for children who are interested in exploring the visual arts but do not have access to affordable art programming outside of their school. Every Friday from 5:00 to 6:00, this open studio-style class will offer 2 to 3 different visual art-making projects at various skill levels under the guidance of an MSAC art instructor. Caregivers and students are encouraged to participate together!
FAMS offers four free sessions per month.
Sessions are every Friday from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. FAMS is limited to 18 participants per session, including caregivers. Please be aware that FAMS sessions will fill up quickly and may be full before sessions begin.
Please be sure to register every person in attendance.
This includes all caregivers and all children. Make sure there are enough spots available for your whole party before registering. If you are using our registration form for the first time, feel free to call us at (608) 232-1510 for assistance.
FAMS makes art available for all families.
Creative enrichment experiences are often not accessible to families who lack the resources required to fund art or music classes outside of traditional school programs, and FAMS is designed to supplement this need. FAMS provides art-making opportunities to families interested in engaging their children in the arts in an accessible way. This program opens doors to families that have been out of our reach due to scheduling or financial constraints that aren't always resolved through our limited scholarship funding.
FAMS is made possible through generous support from the following organizations:
This project is supported by Dane County Arts with additional funds from the Endres Mfg. Company Foundation, The Evjue Foundation, Inc., charitable arm of The Capital Times, the W. Jerome Frautschi Foundation, and the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation.
This project is funded in part by a grant from the Madison Arts Commission, with additional funds from the Wisconsin Arts Board.
