2017 SUMMER ART CAMPS: Ages 5-7


$150/camp $300/full day (morning and afternoon camp, including lunch supervision) unless otherwise noted.
NO CLASS MONDAY, JULY 3-TUESDAY, JULY 4

Week 1: Monday, June 12 -Friday, June 16
#100 Illustrators and Authors 9:00-11:30 AM
Draw inspiration from well-known children’s book authors and illustrators to start the creative process of art making.  We will look at the stories and drawings of Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, and Shell Silverstein to name a few.

#101 Mixed Media Art Studio 12:30-3:00 PM
Artwork comes in many shapes and sizes and a wide variety of mediums.  Explore art making methods, both traditional and modern. Highlights include collage, printmaking, watercolor, paper and more!

Week 2: Monday, June 19- Friday, June 23
#200 Nature Creations 9:00-11:30 AM
Learn ways to create art with nature. Use natural pigments, learn sun printing, and find art materials outside.

#201 Drawing & Painting 12:30-3:00 PM
Explore beginning drawing and painting techniques. Paint with watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paint. We will practice our skills and learn new ones.

Week 3: Monday, June 26- Friday, June 30
#300 NEW! Superhero Week 9:00-11:30 AM
Become your own superhero and channel your inner Spiderman or Wonder Woman! Draw and construct your ideas with drawing and sculpture materials. Create a story for your superhero.

#301 All Things Alien & Robot 12:30-3:00 PM
A summer staple at MSAC! Beep Boop Bop…Make your own “out of this world” alien, and construct a way cool robot using lots of unique materials. Cut, glue, slice and paint your way to a far-out creation. 

Week 4: Wednesday, July 5-Friday, July 7 **NO CLASS JULY 3-4**
$90/ camp, $180/ full day

Explore beginning drawing and painting techniques. Paint with watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paint. We will practice our skills and learn new ones.

Science and art hand in hand! Work with art materials to explore science. Conduct artistic experiments with new materials and discover new methods of creating art.

Week 5: Monday, July 10- Friday, July 14
#500 Enchanted Art 9:00-11:30 AM
Knights, castles, dragons, kings, fairies, princesses, and other enchanted themes are the inspiration for this class. Join in on the fun and create your own fairytale world.

#501 Sculpture 12:30-3:00 PM
Use air-dry clay, Model Magic and found objects to create lovely and expressive works of art in the world of 3-D art.

Week 6: Monday, July 17- Friday, July 21
#600 Cartooning 9:00-11:30 AM
Create your own comic book hero, storyboard and characters. Learn the basics of comic creation: drawing skills, character development, color selection and more.

#601 Monsters of Art 12:30-3:00 PM
Become your own art monster!  Use your imagination, as much as your hands, to create your own monsters! Paint, fabric, imagination and modeling clay will bring your pet monster to life.

Week 7: Monday, July 24- Friday, July 28
#700 Under the Sea 9:00-11:30 AM
Splash into the world of mermaids, dolphins, jellyfish and more! Dive into a deep sea adventure and develop your 2-D and 3-D art skills.

#701 Artful Animals 12:30-3:00 PM
Using a variety of media and techniques, focus on animals as the subject matter. Draw, sculpt, and mix up your very own animal and its environment. We will spend one day this week getting inspired at the Henry Vilas Zoo!

 Week 8: Monday, July 31- Friday, August 4
#800 Wizards and Sorcery 9:00-11:30 AM
Let your paintbrush be your magic wand! Tickle your wildest imagination as we paint, sculpt and build our way through a week of magical art making.

Week 9: Monday, August 7- Friday, August 11
#900 Pirate Arrrt! 9:00-11:30 AM
Walk the plank with MSAC during a week full of pirate themed art! Plunder your imagination with eye patches, parrots and depictions of the Jolly Rodger. Be ready to paint, sculpt and set your creativity to sea!

#901 Art Around the World 12:30-3:00 PM
Travel around the globe and explore distant lands and a variety of cultures through art experiences. We will explore culture, traditions and animals of each place and make drawings, paintings and sculptures from what we find.

Week 10: Monday, August 14- Friday, August 18
#1000 Art Monsters 9:00-11:30 AM
Become your own art monster!  Use your imagination, as much as your hands, to create your own monsters! Paint, fabric, imagination and modeling clay will bring your pet monster to life.

#1001 Sculpture 12:30-3:00 PM
Use air-dry clay, Model Magic and found objects to create lovely and expressive works of art in the world of 3-D art.

Week 11: Monday, August 21- Friday, August 25

#1113 Soft & Squishy, Gloopy Gloppy Fun 12:30-3:00 PM
Experience the tactile world of art and squish your way to a masterpiece. Get your hands dirty making your own clay, painting with goo, and creating slime.

Cancellation Policy:
Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Full refunds or exchanges are permitted up to two weeks prior to the registered camp or class. Exchanges depend on space available in the desired camp or class. No refunds on cancellations with less than two weeks notice.
